This is a song my husband used to sing with the gospel quartet he traveled with when our children were very young. It has always been a favorite song of mine and felt it a fitting song for this special time of year. We all have a lot to be thankful for. I am most thankful for Calvary where our precious Savior gave His life that we might have eternal life and an eternal home in Heaven. He also bore stripes for our healing. Be sure to scroll down to My Playlist and turn it off so you can hear and see this video.
Following are the lyrics written by Bill Gaither and sung by George Younce (of the Cathedrals ) and the Old Friends Quartet. They are written to fit for whoever sings the song.
Today, I went down to the place where I used to go
Today, I saw the same old crowd I knew before
And when they asked me what had happened, I tried to tell them,
Thanks to Calvary, I don't come here anymore.
Thanks to Calvary I am not the man (dad) I used to be
Thanks to Calvary things are different than before.
And as the tears ran down my face I tried to tell them (him)(her),
Thanks to Calvary, I don't come (live) here anymore.
Then we went down to the house where we used to live,
My little boy (girl) ran behind the door, like so many times before;
And I said "Son (Honey) you don't need to be afraid,
Today, I went down to the place where I used to go
Today, I saw the same old crowd I knew before
And when they asked me what had happened, I tried to tell them,
Thanks to Calvary, I don't come here anymore.
Thanks to Calvary I am not the man (dad) I used to be
Thanks to Calvary things are different than before.
And as the tears ran down my face I tried to tell them (him)(her),
Thanks to Calvary, I don't come (live) here anymore.
Then we went down to the house where we used to live,
My little boy (girl) ran behind the door, like so many times before;
And I said "Son (Honey) you don't need to be afraid,
you've got a new Daddy now,
(And I said, "Son (Honey) never fear, you've got a new Mommy here,)
Thanks to Calvary we don't live here anymore.
Thanks to Calvary I am not the man (dad) I used to be
Thanks to Calvary things are different than before.
And as the tears ran down my face I tried to tell them (him)(her),
Thanks to Calvary, I don't come (live) here anymore.
Thanks to Calvary I am not the man (dad) I used to be
Thanks to Calvary things are different than before.
And as the tears ran down my face I tried to tell them (him)(her),
Thanks to Calvary, I don't come (live) here anymore.
Thanks to Calvary, we don't live here anymore.

I really enjoyed this Alice. Thanks to Calvary, I'm not who I used to be anymore.
Thanks to Calvary....I am not who I used to be.
So beautiful! Thank you Alice. I will play this for my husband when he gets home. He really enjoys the Gaithers & Cathedrals--it reminds him of his dad who sang a lot of their songs also.
have a wonderful day!

Thank God we dn't have to live in the past when we know Him, and accept what He did for us!
